Why is he angry? The destruction may be his way of crying for help. Has he always been angry and defiant or is there an event that was the turning point? It may take a little time but I'm sure he's worth the effort in the long run, he may need some space between him and what has made him angry.
Hmm, i am an often angry and sometimes defiant teenage boy, so i might be able to help :). I would try to just level the field, and sit down and talk to him. ask him how he feels, and do not get mad at what he says. let him finish, and just say 'ok'. if its worse than that, you might really want to find some psychological help.
