The proper name for blood in the urine is hematuria and protein is proteinuria.





Hematuria is often observed in children with no apparent cause and also can be caused by alot of exercise.


Proteinuria is also often observed in children with no apparent cause and in adolescents can normally be higher than adults (up to 250mg/day).





To find both in the urine together may range from it being a benign self limiting problem, an infection withing the urinary system, some medications, diabetes mellitus or kidney disease. Normally the higher the level the more severe of a problem it can indicate.





The symptoms are often the best guide when it comes to abnormal urine test results - if the person is healthy and well than it is usually self limited. If there are other signs and symptoms then they should be investigated.
