Leonardo is named after leonardo da vinci, Raphael is named after Raphael Sanzio, Michelangelo is named after Michelangelo Buonarroti and Donatello is named after Donato di Niccol脙虏 di Betto Bardi.Why does the characters in teenage mutant ninja turtles are named after the famous painters?

When the Turtles and Splinter were exposed to the radioactive waste that gave them their powers, they slowly began to mutate into humanoid form. However, when it came time to name the Turtles, the only reference that Splinter had was an art book. He assumed those were normal human names and gave them to the turtles.
actually they were named not only because the originals were great painters,


but because they were the great leaders in the Renaissance.

the whole show literally started as a joke (probably between some stoners as i have noticed bongs in the video games) the names were considered funny and there ya go no real interesting story
i'd say it's because they were great leaders and so splinter would want his boys to grow up trying to live to a greater expectation
