If she wants to pay the $6,000/ year for insurance.

Plus, with fuel prices rising, that car isn't exactly fuel efficient.

For a 16 year old, I would go for a smaller car. Not necessarily a Focus or Cobalt, but something with an I-4 or V6 engine. An Impala or Escape would be good, but I wouldn't go for anything much bigger than those.
Good car to get killed in.
With great material items comes great responsibility. can she afford it, insurance, does it have a warranty? if not could she afford to pay for parts? gas?

If you cant afford it out of your pocket or bank, you shouldnt have it. People get themselves into real messes by not thinking things through enough.
don't ask these question
Personally. I don't like to see kids behind the wheel of a car. Kids will be kids. They are influenced by peer pressure(drive faster, pick up some friends, skip school and joy ride etc). Your girl may be a responsible young lady; but, again, kids will be kids. A camara is a fast sports car---I think she will show off! Possibly riding another guy around also.

She still has time-- high school graduation gift maybe or if she were my child, it would probably be age 22/23, but definitely after graduating from college!
Nothing better than a hot chick in a cool car.
I think it would be a big mistake to let a 16 year old get a sports car period. She's to young for a car like that. The only thing that would come getting her a sports car poss-ably are speeding tickets and trouble in general. The insurance will kill her too at that young of age.
Get her a Power Wheels.
get her a Bus Pass
Tell her to get one of those cars shaped like an egg.
she will be safe in it
get her a Geo Metro
Something not too pretty and expensive because she may beat it up learning how to drive and getting more experienced as she goes.

Toyota and Honda would be a good place to start because those are pretty much a good, durable car and will retain it's value when you go to buy a nicer car later on.
If she's a resposible and careful driver, it might be OK, but the insurance would be expensive. I've seen teenagers driving Mercedes ML500 or CLK320.

But, to be on the safe side, start with a smaller and not-so-fast car. And the insurance will be more affordable.
